In the vast expanse of Elden Ring, players encounter various non-playable characters with deep backstories and compelling questlines. Among these iconic figures is D, Hunter of the Dead, a devout follower of the Golden Order who hunts those who live in death. Locating D and completing his questline grants access to unique incantations, valuable key items, and key connections to broader lore.

Where to Find D in Limgrave and Roundtable Hold

Players can first encounter D in northern Limgrave, situated along the road east of Stormhill Shack and just west of Summonwater Village. He stands over a corpse and warns travelers about the danger of ghostly fiends residing in the nearby village. If you miss this initial meeting or defeat major bosses early on, D will relocate directly to the main room in Roundtable Hold.

Starting the Quest and Clearing Summonwater Village

To advance D's storyline, head east into Summonwater Village and defeat the Tibia Mariner boss. Defeating this boss awards a Deathroot, an essential quest item tied to D's overarching mission. Speak with D either outside the village or at Roundtable Hold to present the Deathroot and earn his trust.

Unlocking Gurranq and Purchasing Incantations

After receiving the Deathroot, D marks a red sending gate on your map near the Third Church of Marika. Traversing this portal transports you to the Bestial Sanctum in Caelid, where you can offer Deathroot to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman. Following your visit to Gurranq, D becomes a merchant at Roundtable Hold, offering specialized holy incantations like Litany of Proper Death and Order's Blade.

Fia's Dagger and the Fate of D

As you progress through the main story and reach Altus Plateau, speak with Fia at Roundtable Hold to receive the Weathered Dagger. Handing this dagger over to D triggers the final phase of his individual story. Upon reloading the area, a previously locked room behind the blacksmith opens, revealing D's body alongside his Bell Bearing and the Twinned Armor set.

Continuing the Legacy with D's Twin Brother

D's storyline naturally connects to that of his twin brother, located in Nokron, Eternal City near the Siofra Aqueduct. Giving the Twinned Armor to his brother wakes him up and allows him to be summoned for difficult boss encounters. Following Fia's questline to its conclusion brings closure to both brothers, rewarding players with powerful equipment like the Inseparable Sword.
